EBMT 2013 - 39th Annual Meeting of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation
It gives us enormous pleasure to invite you, after a gap of almost two decades, back to the UK for the EBMT meetings. These will be the 39th and 29th annual meetings for the physicians and nurses respectively but of course the organisation has long been building expertise in other essential disciplines, celebrating the 12th meeting of the data managers, the 7th annual Patient and Family Day, the 5th quality managers meeting and the 2nd year that we have specifically brought together our colleagues in cell processing.
London is always a vibrant and popular venue but will still be buzzing in April 2013 after the incredible celebrations of the Olympics and Diamond Jubilee. Not only will you be coming to an exciting city but also to an exciting meeting. In 2013 we want, as always, to celebrate all that is good about this annual event and in addition, continue to improve the quality of the meeting content particularly with respect to basic and translational science. We have asked many of you for your suggestions and have tried to act on these. Wherever possible we will try to bring together basic and translational science and clinical studies when discussing challenging transplant topics. We will continue our focus on reporting recent developments, excellent plenary presentations, education at all levels and offering the best of the abstract submissions, and following the progress made at previous congresses we will maintain the single day devoted to our paediatric colleagues. The formal working party sessions will focus on recent completed studies and there will be opportunities for all who are interested to attend the ‘working’ meetings of the working parties. On Sunday we will host high quality satellite symposia generously sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry.
The EBMT has been a fantastic example of international collaboration and there is no doubt that this success has been facilitated by the opportunities for meeting and building friendships at the annual meeting. As the number of attendees increases each year it becomes more difficult to create an environment that encourages meeting and discussing with new colleagues. Because this is most easily achieved in a social setting we encourage you to attend the welcome reception where we will also highlight wonderful music from young British musicians, to mingle and chat at the poster sessions and to attend our ‘new look’ gala dinner. Although individual tickets will be available we would like to suggest that you book a table to bring your team. It’s a great way to reward yourselves for all the hard work and commitment throughout the year.
The meeting will take place in the purpose-built Excel Conference centre, ideally situated to allow you to concentrate on the meeting during the day and close enough to the West End to be able to enjoy London entertainment in the evening. There is ample accommodation at all price levels either within walking distance of Excel or a tube or riverboat ride away. There are few cities that can compete with London for cultural, sporting and social facilities. Peruse the museums and art galleries, stroll through the parks and along the river, be thrilled by a West End show or the best of ballet and opera, pick up tickets for world class football and rugby or indulge in late night shopping. Whatever your interests be assured that at EBMT London 2013 you will be able to combine work, education and pleasure of the highest quality.
See you there!
